Little House of Red

Little House of Relaxation

Life in the city can be hectic and sometimes you just have to escape, unwind and heal your soul. We know!

Our property sits on 35 acres of picturesque countryside, just south of the village of Broke in the Hunter Valley. The mornings are heralded with birdsong from the many different species living in the bush and gullies around us. Wallabies and horses graze in the paddocks and turtles swim in the dam. During the day you can choose to relax and soak in the tranquility, or explore the many opportunities available in the Valley.

Little House of Indulgence

Wine Tasting – there are a dozen cellar doors within a short drive of the property, including one just across the road! Go ahead and visit Krinklewood, Greenway, Running Horse, Mount Broke, Margan, 1813, Glenguin, Whispering Brook, AscellaCatherine Vale or Nightingale. You may wish to take up the challenge to check out all of them, or just a select few. We are very happy to help you choose the itinerary that best suits your personal wine tastes – just ask! Ruth is a wine professional with a very good knowledge of the local venues, their wines and other offerings.

Dining – weekend dining in the Broke region can be high-end gourmet (Margan), casual (Mount Broke) or family (Nightingale). Please book ahead – especially for Margan.

Outside of weekends, we recommend you head towards Pokolbin and the many other restaurants it offers, just 20 minutes to our west, or the Broke Village Store has a good range of groceries as well as basic cooked food such as pies, burgers, fish & chips etc. If you are arriving late, don’t forget to stop for dinner on the way – there are no delivery or late-night food options in Broke.

Little House of Fun

In the warmer months, our pool is a must – a salt water oasis with spectacular mountain views. Or just take a walk around the property or into the bush.

Outside the property there are more adventures to be had. Go and see the ancient and heritage listed aboriginal paintings of Biaime cave, feed alpacas, go hot air ballooning, horse riding or bike riding, take a joy flight or stroll around Hunter Valley Gardens.

Little House of Love

If you are here for a wedding – or scouting out options for your own celebration – there are several very popular and beautiful wedding venues in our region. Adam’s Peak is just a short, 10 minute drive away and offers incredible facilities, country-chic theming and breathtaking views. 8 minutes away, Margan’s offers barrel-room luxury and fine dining. River Flats Estate, just a couple of km away, can host a relaxed and personalised country wedding. New to Broke is Winmark, just around the corner from us, who offer deluxe vineyard weddings. Or ask about other possibilities in the region.

If you are travelling to and from a wedding you will find transport is usually arranged by the bridal party via minibuses that pick up locally, including here.

Little House of Festivities

If you are attending a concert in Pokolbin, you should make it a priority to book accommodation and transfers asap! Local transfers to and from concerts are through Rover Coaches, who have a pick up/drop off point at the local Broke Village Store, just 4km from here.

Other major events throughout the year include A Little Bit of Italy in Broke, on the first weekend in April; the Broke Village Fair, on the third weekend in September and Smoke in Broke (BBQ Festival) on the June long weekend.

The local Broke markets are held on the first Sunday of every month and in nearby Wollombi (20 minutes south) there is a major market day on the Monday of every long weekend. Other markets include the Handmade in the Hunter Markets and DeBortoli Farmers Markets, both in Pokolbin, on select weekends.
